Actually, I have been having a problem with my own set up and I'd like to bouce an idea or two around.
I have a computer that my brother built for me. It's got in it:
ECS K7S5A board 1.15 gigahertz AMD Athlon XP processor Bus Clock: 66 megahertz 128 kilobyte primary memory cache 256 kilobyte secondary memory cache BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 07.00T 04/02/01 92.63 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity 45.16 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space 384 Megabytes Installed Memory (SD RAM)
WHen I am converting music files, or running more than pne music program at a time.....I see a spike in my CPU usage and it has been holding at 100%. When it's doing this everything begins freezing up and sometimes I have to reboot.
I'm of the line of thought that my processor is simply too slow for what I am doing on the recently upgraded RAM end myself. I've really got data flowing very quickly through my RAM now and it's like a train wreck when it all hits my CPU. I've upgraded pretty much everything except the board & the processor; it mat be time to upgrade them. Anyone have any thoughts?

Okay, my first question about this is
How much money are you willing to spend on the upgrades?
My second would be What do you want changing?

Well......My computer crashed right after my mix show on Sat. March 12th and to be honest....I want to just take it out to the desert and shoot it like a lame horse! LOL
I think I am going to just build me a new one MYSELF. That way, I can put what I want into it and have it set up for my needs; I don't like those damn cheap ass package pieces of shit. Oh sure, I can get a Dell for $499.99 (after mail in rebate?) but it's going to made from the cheapest parts available and not have nearly what I need in it, you know?
So, I think some of thr problems with my system now are: 1. poor air flow and lack of cooling for the processor. Some of this is due to the way the case is set up and I suspect the CPU fan may be crashing on me.
2. I'm running off of the Windows XP upgrade and the original version of Windows was 98. IRQ's are ALL over the place and in fact, I have four different things sharing my IRQ #10!
I'm gonna KILL IT! LOL

@ DJGemini69 encoding from wave form to mp3 always uses a lot of processor power and so would running two audio applications. if you decide to build your own PC and it is for audio production i would recomend a pentium 4 machine with hyper threading technology and at least 1gb of ram. when i started off using traktor dj studio 2.5 i had an athlon xp1600 and 256 mb of ram and when i used traktor dj my cpu usage would be at 80% and when encoding the cpu usage would be at 100% but since i built my own PC. I have never had anymore trouble.

Yeah, my brother basically built the system I have now. I'm toying with the idea of building a server to run at home and I am also planing to build another computer for my GF and set up a karaoke website for her to run. FUn stuff! Then of course, I have to upgrade my shit.....

Well by this time you probably got your pc fixed or got a new one. but I guess this can by for future use. but the problem sounds like there is a short in your wires.or there is a leak, that will cause it to slow your pc down and act strange. also can cause a crash. Most people would think its a virus when its not.sometimes if you install a wrong part in the pc it can cause these problems or not installing it the proper way. mainly its the wire that go from your mother board to the harddrive. That can cause your pc to go very slow. such as trying to install a program takes longer than it should.when playing a mp3 or movie and opening another program you hear alot of static and sounds like your pc is pausing.these are just some of the reasons that can cuause these problems.

sometimes, you can tell if your CPU or power supply fan is gonna go out soon. when it starts to make noises, and gets louder and then boom!! it died.
